Eastern Great Lakes Woodlands Owl Effigy Ladle

This well-executed ash burl ladle features a bowl that gracefully flows upwards to a handle that provides a beaded perch upon which a tiny owl sits.

The owl’s head is turned backwards, giving the piece an unusal sense of mystery and the watchfulness of the natural world. It is also a testament to the carver's keen observational sense of that world.

The entire piece feels like an organic extension of the forest itself.
