Eastern Great Lakes Woodlands Red Painted Ceremonial Bowl

This powerful piece is dominated by a large bird-of-prey commanding its position atop a slightly delineated perch.

The bowl beneath the bird is both refined and gutsy, and was carved a bit heavier than typical. On the whole being carved to a thickness of about three eights of an inch.

Carved from a beautiful specimen of ash burl, the whole ladle displays a dark, richly patinated surface.
