Northeastern Woodlands Ladles

Various Woods and Burls
c.1760-1820

Practically all Native American tribesmen had "eating ladles" of some form or another. These ranged in complexity from devices carved of simple softwoods to delicately sculpted burled woods topped with fully modeled figurative effigies.

This grouping of ladles ranges from 1760-1820 and are typical of the fine carving Native Americans were able to accomplish with the most rudimentary tools.
